East Midlands Airport was in full holiday flow last week when my co-author, Stafford Hildred and ex-Derby County and England centre-half Roy McFarland joined me for a signing of For Pete’s Sake at the  WH Smith Book Shop.

Courtesy of bookshop manager, Lee Larkin and thanks to the very efficient Airport PR Department, we sold lots of copies and Roy was in great demand.

He may be over 60 and a grandad now (sorry, Roy!) but he’s still a major attraction.

There’s a lot of talk these days about ‘legends’ but you only had to see how pleased fans were to meet him to realise that Roy is a true legend.

Grown men were quite overcome! “He’s my hero, ” said one.

We’re now looking forward to another signing at the end of the month (the 28th) at Waterstone’s in Derby and, of course, to the unveiling of Dad & Brian’s statue at Pride Park on the 27th.

I went to Scarborough with my daughter Alex on Wednesday whilst dropping off For Pete’s Sake; The Peter Taylor story at Middlesborough FC and Hartlepools.

We had  fantastic time, it reminded me of when I used to go with Dad, Mum and my brother Phil when we we re little; we’ve always been in love with Scarborough and that’s something I’ve passed on to my girls, Alex and Laura.

Scarborough is of course mentioned in the book; the time we went with the Cloughs to The Royal Hotel when dad was Trying to persuade Brian Clough to go to Derby!

The story of the ‘other half’ of Clough & Taylor, football’s most famous and successful partnership.

Peter Taylor and Brian Clough first met as young footballers at a pre-season practice match in Middlesbrough in 1955. If the lanky goalkeeper and the skinny centre forward could have seen into the future they would hardly have believed what lay in store for them.

That encounter led to a friendship and a management partnership that would conquer the world of football.
Football fans know them as Clough and Taylor; to Peter’s journalist daughter Wendy Dickinson they were simply ‘Dad and Brian’. Together they won countless honours, including league titles and two European Cups in consecutive years, a feat that will never be repeated.

After almost 30 years of friendship and spectacular success they split up, were never reconciled and never spoke again before their untimely deaths.

Not this year but back in the 70s which is what I’m writing about today for the book on my Dad, Peter Taylor – For Pete’s Sake.

Dad and the lads were in Majorca with all games completed and Leeds and Liverpool had to play…any of the three teams could have won the championship and Derby were the outsiders.

I went to the Leeds v Wolves match with my Mum and brother. It was the most nerve-wracking night of my life. Read all about it in For Pete’s Sake.
